VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Police have a strong reminder for community members: it is illegal to shoot guns within the city limits of Valdosta.
The Valdosta Police Department says with the New Year's Eve holiday coming up, they expect to see an increase in guns being fired.
They remind people that even if you're just shooting into the air, those bullets can damage roofs, cars and even strike people.
"It's a practice we strongly discourage, people don't understand that bullets come down with the exact same velocity then it went up and if it hits somebody, it will be lethal," said Lt. Adam Bembry.
VPD says that, although they will be out looking for anyone firing a gun, they will not be able to be everywhere at once, so they advise people to stay in their homes and not to wander the streets if they are not headed to a specific location.
