VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta police officers will cover the shifts for deputies attending the funeral of fallen deputy Chris Butler.
Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk tells us 12 officers will be deputized at a ceremony on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the sheriff's office. This is so they have arrest powers in the county. He says the officers know the ins and outs of the county.
The officers will work from 2 to 7 p.m. in the county. Sheriff Paulk says Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress offered that service.
The funeral for deputy Butler is at Morningside Baptist Church at 4 p.m. Thursday on Connell Road. Deputy Butler was killed in a head-on crash Saturday night on Cat Creek Road responding to a domestic call.
