VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - A Valdosta mother stopped a man from kidnapping her child off her front porch over the weekend, according to police.

The incident happened on Saturday around 4:20 p.m. on the 2000 block of Melrose Drive, says the Valdosta Police Department.

According to Officers, the woman stepped inside her home while her two-year-old daughter was playing on the porch to check on a second child. She then heard the child scream and ran back to her porch.

She told police a white man approximately 5'9" to 5'10" tall was holding her daughter's arm trying to leave the porch with her. The mother grabbed the child and pulled her into the home and called police.

Police say the man has brown hair with a possible scar on the left side of his face and is 160 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a peach or pink colored shirt, blue jeans, and gray and white running shoes.

Police are asking anyone with more information to call the crime tip line at 229-293-3091 or 229-293-3145 for Bureau of Investigations.

They are also urging adults with small children to keep a close eye on them and to not let them play outside without a responsible person watching them.
