Valdosta man expected to survive after being shot in the head

VALDSOSTA, GA. (WTXL) -- A man who was shot in the head Tuesday evening is expected to recover from his injuries, said the Valdosta Police Department

The shooting happened on the 500 block of West Street just after 7:30 p.m. when officers said they found the victim, Samuel Sawyer.

Police said they found the suspect, Hubert Heflin, at the scene and he indicated that he was the one who shot Sawyer.

According to witnesses in the area, there was an ongoing dispute throughout the day between Heflin and Sawyer, said police.

Helfin was taken to the Lowndes County Jail and will be charged with Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.
