VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - Valdosta Police have charged a man with murder in connection to a December house fire that killed his mother.
Police say Freddie Finnissee has been charged with malice murder and arson for a December 2015 house fire on Perry Lane.
Investigators found Finnissee's mother Diane Calhoun-Perry dead inside. Her death was ruled a homicide.
Her 40-year-old son is now in the Lowndes County Jail.
"Early on in the investigation, all agencies involved were careful not to rush to judgement in determining the victim's cause of death," said Chief Brian Childress.
The department says while there was a in getting the indictment, officers and firefighters were, "...methodical in their investigation to ensure that the outcome was correct."
