VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - The Valdosta Fire Department began it's annual burn training Thursday morning.
Firefighters from every station throughout the city participated.
The training took place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and literally brought the house down when a donated house was burned. Rescue fighters suited-up for the training, with paramedics and fire trucks on standby.
The training is designed to not only freshen up veteran fighters, but to sharpen new fire fighters. Lieutenant Justin Ply says this is as close to the real deal as it gets.
VFD will continue the burn training over the next three days.
If community members have an abandoned house, they have the option to donate it for this cause, if it passes inspection. Just contact the Valdosta Fire Department at (229) 333-1836 to find out how.
