VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) -- A Valdosta-Lowndes Crime Lab employee is accused of stealing drugs from the lab.

Police said Amber Nowalkski took oxycodone and hydrocodone.

An internal audit at the crime lab in September turned up something suspicious, with several discrepancies with evidence, prompting another audit, two investigations and the notifying of a number of agencies.

Police said transparency has always been a top priority and wasted no time tracking down who was responsible.

The department said the discrepancies were tied to just one employee and a specific type and number of cases, which  are being looked at by the district attorney's office.

Police also said that they've determined that Nawolski did not tamper with any active cases.

She had worked in the lab for 9 years.
