VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta City Schools has released preliminary results from the Criterion Reference Competency Tests (CRCT) and say elementary and middle school students showed great performance improvement. However school leaders add, there is a need for improvement in science and social studies.
Some of the biggest academic gains according to the data are 7th grade reading scores, 8th grade social studies and 8th grade science.
For the district, in grades 3rd through 8th, 94% of students passed the CRCT in reading and over a third of them exceeded on the CRCT. In English/Language Arts, 91% of students passed the CRCT and over 28% of the students in 3rd through 8th grades exceeded on the CRCT. State law requires that students in grades 3rd, 5th and 8th meet or exceed expectations in reading to be promoted. It is also a requirement that 5th and 8th grade students meet or exceed expectations in the area of math.
Visit www.gocats.org for more CRCT data. District leaders are encouraging parents to contact their student's school for individual student and school data.
