VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - Valdosta leaders reach a deal on the city's budget for the next year, but city leaders say it came at a cost.
Nearly $4 million of department requests were turned down.
The city council approved an $89 million budget for the 2017 fiscal year, which starts July 1st. Council-members reviewed over six hours of presentations at three different meetings before deciding on the numbers.
Even with the reduction of department request, the city says the millage rate is still one of the lowest in the state, with a property tax rate of 6.106 mills. The budget also includes funding for a new compensation plan for city employees.
