VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta City High School has received top honors and is being recognized as having one of the top debate teams in the region.
The team earned the spot as the top 2015-2016 Chapter of the Georgia Southern Peach District.
The honor, based on student participation, is the highest recognition you can receive in the district, which spans all the way to Atlanta.
More then 3,000 schools compete for the honor, with one school in each district being named.
Debate coach, Pamela Childress, says she couldn't be more proud of her students and what they've accomplished.
"There's 27 tournaments during the season around the state of Georgia and we go to 10 tournaments a year...so for our kids to go to so few tournaments, and do so well - I like seeing them succeed," said Childress. "There's nothing that feels quite as good as when a student comes out there and they grab me and say 'Coach Coach I won!"
The team will receive a commemorative plaque at the district tournament.
