Valdosta, Ga.---(WTXL)--The Valdosta City Council is expected to vote on the future of the Valdosta Hospital Authority.
On Thursday night, a city councilman will issue a motion calling for the resignation of all four city appointed hospital authority members.
That motion for the hospital authority members to resign could mean a change in leadership.
According to councilman Robert Yost, that would mean that patients get the best service at South Georgia Medical Center. The Hospital Authority is made up of eight members, four selected by the city and four by the county.
With South Georgia Medical Center being a public hospital--that means the authority governs how it's run.
However that's the problem according to Yost. He says the hospital is riddled with issues. Not necessarily when it comes to care, but behind the scenes. Yost named off several instances in which he says the hospital authority was unethical--specifically regarding public records requests. He also says a state law enforcement agency is involved but couldn't give out details on the probe. In all, Yost says this pattern of ethical issues is reason enough that the city coucil should consider a vote of no-confidence.
"Its time for a change. We need a new direction. We need new leadership on the hospital authority and we need new administrative personnel in the hospital and no matter whats done unethically, the bottom line is the hospital authority is not held accountable by anyone", exclaims Yost.
The meeting is set for 7:00 p.m. tonight. If by chance the city casts a "no confidence" vote in the authority or presses members to resign, none of the members legally have to do so. Yosts says the vote is simply to show hospital authority members that the city leadership has no assurance that they're doing their jobs.
As for the hospital, WTXL-ABC27 has reached out to South Georgia Medical Center for a statement however; they didn't have anything prepared just yet.
