VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Valdosta City Council members will vote this Thursday on some much needed traffic equipment.

The controllers play a crucial part in the sequencing of every traffic signal throughout the city.

New traffic controllers and modules mean safer streets for the Valdosta Community.

The request for new traffic controllers and modules is an item that makes its way onto the agenda every year, and with good reason. The control boxes are located at every signal, keeping the sequencing of the signal on track.

They help during emergencies, turning signals to flashing yellow or red when a storm hits.

But the need for service or replacement comes when the controllers are hit by cars, struck by lightning, and simple normal wear and tear. The boxes are sensitive, and they are replaced if the slightest issue arises, as it can be life threatening for drivers if one is not functioning properly.

The estimated cost for the controllers and modules is $55,000. The voting will take place Thursday at the city council meeting.
