TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-- Motorists should expect detours and road closures starting Monday April 15.

The City of Tallahassee's Underground Utility department plans to begin work on two separate projects. They will affect Old Bainbridge Road, Orange Avenue and Blair Stone Road.

On Old Bainbridge Road, crews will replace an underground water system that is more than 60 years old. According to the City of Tallahassee, replacement is necessary to avoid water interruptions and ensure clean and reliable water services continue.

The construction will be on Old Bainbridge road between West Brevard and Tharpe streets. Work will be during the weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should expect road closures and detours. Construction from Alabama to Tharpe streets is expected to be completed by July, and the remaining construction from Alabama to Brevard streets is expected to be finished by October. After construction is completed, Leon County plans to resurface Old Bainbridge Road.

The Underground Utility department will also begin work on Orange avenue and Blair Stone Road. This project will give sewer service to properties along these roads. For the first 90 days of the project, the eastbound lanes of Orange Avenue will be closed and the westbound lanes will be converted to two-way traffic. After that estimated time period, southbound lanes will close along Blair Stone road and northbound lanes will convert to two-way traffic. This second phase is anticipated to last for about six months.

Due to construction on Old Bainbridge Road, StarMetro's Moss route will be rerouted. To view a map of detours and for more information about this either of these projects, visit Talgov.com. You can also like the City of Tallahassee on Facebook or follow @COTNews or @COTTraffic on Twitter.

Valdosta motorists will also see lane closures along Eager Road. The City of Valdosta will be installing water and sewer mains as part of the Island 35C Water and Sewer Extension project. The westbound lane will be closed between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p. m. daily. Motorists will be detoured along Northfield Road to Wendover Road and back to Eager. Traffic in the eastbound lane will not be affected. This first portion of the project is scheduled for completion by May 17.
