UPDATE: Woman killed in Tharpe St./Devra Drive crash, road closed

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A woman is dead and Tallahassee police are urging drivers to avoid the Tharpe Street area following an early morning car crash.

Police say that they received word of the incident from a passer-by around 3:20 a.m. on Friday, May 24. The resident noticed a car in a wooded area near the intersection of Tharpe Street and Devra Drive.

Officials from the Tallahassee Police Department, Tallahassee Fire Department, and Leon County EMS responded; when they arrived, they found a woman in the vehicle. Police say she died at the scene as a result of injuries she received in the crash.

Police are not releasing the identity of the woman until her family is notified. The cause of the crash has not been determined due to the ongoing investigation.

Officer David Northway with the Tallahassee Police Department says  their "hearts and thoughts" go out to the friends and family of the victim.

The area of Tharpe Street, Devra Drive, and Ivan Drive are expected to remain closed through rush hour traffic on Friday. A tree was reportedly knocked down during the collision.
