UPDATE: TPD Releases Identity of Pedestrian Hit & Killed by Garbage Truck

UPDATE, 9:37pm Tuesday (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police release the names of those involved in the deadly pedestrian accident on West Tennessee Street.

According to TPD, the driver of the City of Tallahassee garbage truck is 41-year old Elijah Mays and the pedestrian, who died at the scene, was 46-year old John R. Summers.

The Tallahassee Police Department continues to follow up on this crash and is asking anyone with information to call them at (850) 891-4200.

Chief DeLeo and all of TPD say they express their sympathy to the family of Mr. Summers.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- We're learning what caused an overnight accident that killed a pedestrian. 

It happened just after 3 a.m. in the 4200 block of West Tennessee Street.

Tallahassee Police say a man was trying to cross the street, when he was hit by a city of tallahassee garbage truck.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

No names are being released at this time.

Investigators are asking witnesses to call TPD at (850) 891-4200.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- Tallahassee Police are investigating a deadly accident involving a pedestrian.  

It happened Tuesday just after 3 a.m. in the 4200 block of Tennessee Street, near the Taco Bell.

Police say the pedestrian was trying to cross the street, when he or she was hit by a car. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

No names are being released at this time.

Investigators are still at the crash site. They ask any drivers in the area to travel with caution.
