UPDATE: Tornado warning expires for Florida and Georgia counties

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The  National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for north central Madison County in the Big Bend of Florida, southwestern Lowndes County in south central Georgia and southeastern Brooks County in south central Georgia.

A later warning also was issued for the Georgia counties of Echols and Clinch.

The weather service issued the first warning at 2:38 a.m. Monday saying that a severe thunderstorm was found that was capable of producing a tornado. 

NWS says the warning will last until 3:15 a.m. Monday for the counties except for Lowndes, which lasts until 3:30 a.m.

The weather service says the storm will be near Lake Park and I-75 at Exit 16 around 2:50 a.m. Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include I-75 at Exit 5, Nankin, Twin Lakes, Empress, Remerton, Clyattville, Cherry Lake, Dasher, Pinetta and I-75 at Exit 11.

Take cover now, the weather service advises. Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.
