VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - At approximately 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 the Valdosta Fire Department (VFD) was called out to a fire at a home located at 1904 Houston Avenue.
When firefighters arrived, they said they noticed heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the home. Everyone inside was able to escape unharmed, after their smoke detector went off. Firefighters were able to put out the fire and safely rescue the family's dog from the home.
According to a Valdosta City spokesperson, fire investigators have determined that the cause of the fire was electrical.
VFD says the fire was mostly contained to the attic and caused about $30,000 in damages. The American Red Cross is assisting the family of five.
