TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Nine people were displaced as a result of a house fire in the 2800 block of Southwood Drive, according to Lt. Mike Bellamy with the  Tallahassee Fire Department.

Lt. Bellamy said that they received a call just after 11 a.m. One of the residents, home with three kids, noticed smoke. She grabbed the children and ran to her neighbor's house.

Fire crews responded, entered the home, and put out the fire. Utility crews also helped at the scene, securing power to the home.

Firefighters were able to resuscitate a cat, but a dog died in the blaze.

Nine people, including seven children and two adults, lived in the home. Those home during the fire were able to get out of the home. All residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire, which caused an estimated $40,000 worth of damage, is still under investigation.
