TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- A Tallahassee Fire Department endeavor to reduce the number of residential fires this holiday season is now in its fourth week.

The focal point of the program, called "Keep the Wreath Green",  is a large wreath placed in Dorothy P. Oven Park. It begins with all green bulbs; after each residential fire, a bulb is changed from red to green. 

There are now a total of fourteen red bulbs on the wreath. The following is a summary of all of the holiday home fires:

Week 1- 11/19-11/25 - 2 fires

Week 2- 11/26-12/2 - 4 fires

  • 20722- Cigarette/ $1 million
  • 20974- Candle/ $2,500

Week 3- 12/3-12/9 - 4 fires

  • 21408 Wakulla Springs Rd. Electrical smoke damage

Week 4- 4 fires 12/10 to 12/16

  • 21950- 4700 Block of Buckhead Ct - Dryer Fire/Equipment - $1,000
  • 21666- 1600 Block of Grey Fox Run – Cooking Fire - $250     
  •  21997- 2400 Block of Emerald Ridge Loop – Cooking Fire - $2,500
  • 21630- 1400 Block of Jay Bird Ln – Equipment Failure/ A/C Heating System - $40,000
