Update: Gretna man missing for nearly a week is found safe

UPDATE: 01/12/2013- GADSDEN COUNTY (WTXL) -- Officials from the Gretna Police Department say 72 year old Garrett Hughes has been located.

Captain Carlos De La Cruz from the Gretna Police Department says Hughes was found early this morning.

Police tell us Hughes wandered up to home on Chadd Lane near Dewey Johnson Way.

The person inside the home called police.

Even though he appeared to be healthy Hughes was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.

Police say he appears to healthy and just fine.

Police say Hughes had been missing for six days. 

UPDATE: 01/10/13- GADSDEN COUNTY (WTXL)--Thursday is day four in the search for a missing Gadsden County man.

Crews spent the day trying to re-trace the tracks of Garrett Hughes. The elderly man hasn't been since Saturday.

“I got faith that we can find him and right now. I aint going to leave no rock unturned until I find him,” said Hughes’ son.

It has been a long four days for Darett Hughes and his family. They, along with search crews have been looking for 72 year old Garrett Hughes.

“He's a father, friend and one of the friendliest guys you want to meet, you know, he was at time disciplined but let's just say he was a father and that's why I’m not giving up,” he said.

Investigators say Garrett Hughes was last seen leaving the Dollar General in Gretna Saturday.

 Family members say the 72 year old has dementia and they're concerned that he may have wandered into the streets or gotten lost.

“We conducted a ground and aerial search Sunday and Monday. And we're still following leads up until today; basically we're working around the clock,” said Captain Carlos De La Cruz with the Gretna Police Department.

Cruz says despite their search efforts, nothing has turned up that may provide a clue as to where Hughes may be or what happened.

Darett Hughes is holding onto hope that someone, somewhere, knows where his father is.

“If anybody picked him up and dropped him off somewhere you don't have to call, you don't have to give your name, call the officer, call the police station and just tell him where you dropped him off at and the officers will take it from there,” said Hughes’ son.

GRETNA, Fla. (WTXL)--Gretna police are continuing the search for a missing man named Garrett Hughes.

Hughes has been missing since early Sunday morning. Law enforcement officials and volunteers have been searching the area for days.

Police have released two pictures that show the clothing Hughes had on before his disappearance.  He was last seen wearing a Blue and White shirt, jeans and a black hat. Hughes has gray hair, a mustache and a beard.

Gretna Police say there are medical concerns concerning Hughes.
