PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) - Authorities in the Florida Panhandle are searching for an inmate who failed to show up to the Department of Correction's work release center.
Officials say 27-year-old Brandon Bingaman didn't return to the program Sunday.
The News Herald of Panama City reports Bingaman only had about 50 days left on a two-and-a-half year sentence for burglary, grand theft, trafficking in stolen property and possession of cocaine.
Bay County Sheriff's spokesman Tommy Ford says they were notified about 4:43 p.m. Sunday.
Ford says Bingaman was visiting his parents and left in their sea foam green Jaguar.
Inmates in the work release program are typically non-violent offenders with a small amount of time left on their sentences. Once they're captured, a felony escape charge with a maximum five-year sentence is tacked on.
