UPDATE: Apartment fire in Tallahassee displaces 10

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Tallahassee Firefighters say two people who lived at the apartment complex awoke to smoke and flames in their apartment around 5:15 p.m.  When firefighters arrived, two of the four apartment units in the building were on fire and the other two units were filled with smoke.

Eight of the nine residents of the apartment building were home at the time of the fire and made it safely. The Tallahassee Fire Department and Tallahassee Police Department evacuated two nearby buildings. The fire is believed to have started inside the kitchen of the downstairs apartment. 

Damages are estimated at $200,000 and the Red Cross assisted 9 adults and 1 child at the scene. Leon County EMS and City of Tallahassee Utilities assisted on scene as well.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--The Tallahassee Fire Department on the scene of an apartment fire on the 800 block of California Street.

Lt. Mike Bellamy tells us nine adults and one child are displaced and getting help from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. We're told no one was injured.
