JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida Department of Health in Jackson County has issued an advisory asking people to avoid swimming in Spring Creek or the Chipola River.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office shared the warning, saying that an equipment failure caused a discharge of untreated wastewater in an area close to the head of Spring Creek.
Health officials have asked that people avoid swimming in Spring Creek or the Chipola River south of highway 90 in Marianna.
The Jackson County health department says it's a precautionary measure.
Bacteria testing will begin Wednesday and continue until levels in the water return to normal.
