MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) -- Plans to open a strip club in Midway have reached a roadblock.

The Midway City Council unanimously voted to prohibit alcohol sales in the establishment during a meeting on August 1. The move is a continuation of an ordinance that doesn't allow liquor sales in adult entertainment facilities.

Supporters of the club, proposed earlier this year by The North Florida Minority Enterprise Group, say a liquor license would be vital to the businesses' success.

However, members of the community voiced their concerns at the meeting, saying the club wouldn't be beneficial for the city or its residents.

"It's not what happens at the club itself, but it's the other things that happen after," Local Pastor Charles Schriven said.

An attorney representing the group interested in opening the adult entertainment club is not giving up the fight to open the business. He says that he is filing an investigation to look into the proceedings of a previous Midway city council meeting.

O'Neal did not say how long the investigation will take, or what the discrepancy was.
