GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Sometime early next year officials hope to break ground on a new president's home at the University of Florida. And the $5 million project includes renovations at the current president's home.

University Vice President for Business Affairs Curtis Reynolds says construction is slated to begin during the first three months of 2014. It will take about 14 months to complete.

The Gainesville Sun reports the project is funded with private donations — including a $3.5 million gift from alumni John and Mary Dasburg of Key Biscayne. The new home will be named in their honor.

The existing president's home has been used for alumni offices and public events since President Bernie Machen bought a home off campus in 2006. He has announced he's retiring in December 2014.
