VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - A 13-year-old and a 14-year-old are facing charges after trying to rob an elderly victim, beating him up when they realized he didn't have anything, and threatening him with more violence if he called the police.

The Valdosta Police Department says that the incident happened on Tuesday around 3 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of University Drive about an assault on an elderly person.

When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with a victim who reported being attacked while on his own property. The resident said that while working in his yard, he was approached by two teens.

The teens tried to rob the man, but when they realized he didn't have anything on his person, they hit him in the head and face with an unknown object.

As the teens ran away, they threatened the residents with more violence if he called the police.

Thankfully, the resident only sustained superficial injuries and did not require medical attention.

Within a few hours, as the investigation developed, both teens were identified and arrested.

“Assaults on any resident but especially the elderly will not be tolerated in any form or fashion. The Valdosta Police will continue to strongly investigate and pursue all crimes of this nature,” said Lieutenant Adam Bembry.
