TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Fire Department says they battled a fire at an apartment building on Nekoma Court Saturday afternoon.

They were called to the scene at about 1:25 p.m. When they arrived, crews saw heavy smoke and fire coming from a two-story apartment building.

Crews put out the fire and rescued several pets from the building.  It was reported to TFD that a neighbor rescued a child from the apartment that caught fire before crews arrived.

Officials say paramedics took two people to a local facility. They say no firefighters were hurt.

The fire caused an estimated $100,000 in damage. The cause is still under investigation. The American Red Cross was contacted to help the people living in the building.
