MARIANNA, Fla. (WTXL) - Two people have been arrested for a string of burglaries from retail stores in the Marianna and Jackson County area.

Alexander Williams, 39, and Fatimah Borders, 38, were arrested by the Marianna Police Department.

On Sunday, officers were called to Winn Dixie in response to a shoplifting incident.

Officers found Williams' car as they tried to leave Marianna and go to Alabama. During a traffic stop, Williams was arrested for outstanding warrants from Jackson County.

Additionally he had two hydrocodone pills that he could not provide a prescription for, which were concealed in a cigarette pack.

Employees of Winn Dixie were able to positively identify Borders as the woman that left the store with over $300 worth of merchandise in a shopping cart that she had not paid for.

MPD said as the employees tried to stop Borders from leaving, she left the merchandise in the parking lot and fled the area.

Officers stated new merchandise was found in the vehicle including several expensive appliances, clothing, bedsheet sets along with other items.

Those items did not come from Winn Dixie and are believed to be stolen from other retail stores in the Jackson County area.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was notified and took possession of the other suspected stolen items and a joint investigation between the Marianna Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is underway with additional charges possible.

Borders is being charged with grand theft and resisting a merchant and Williams is being charged with possession of hydrocodone and possession of marijuana under 20 grams.

Both were taken to the Jackson County Correctional Facility.
