TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Two men have been arrested for the theft of a trailer and three mowers from the LCS Grounds and Maintenance facility during Hurricane Irma.
Steven L. Hill, 43, was arrested Monday on several grand theft charges, including one for the taking of a BigT trailer valued at more than $5,000, the property of Southern Flooring of 1940 Thomasville Road, according to a probable cause affidavit.
When Billy R. Paige II, 35, was arrested in September, court documents showed that he left the LCS Grounds and Maintenance property unsecured so that Hill, a friend and person he used to work for, could steal from it.
Paige was charged with accessory to burglary and accessory to grand theft of more than $20,000.
Paige told investigators he received a phone call from a co-worker telling him not to come to work on Sept. 7 and to prepare for Hurricane Irma to make landfall. He told investigators he knew that Hill was going to come, so he purposely left the property unsecured.
On Sept. 10, the Escambia County Sheriff's Office got a search warrant and found at Hill's home the stolen trailer and the three mowers.
Specifically, Hill faces three grand theft charges for property and one charge for dumping raw human waste.
