LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) - Two Mississippi men are behind bars tonight, after Lowndes County deputies say they kidnapped a five-year-old girl from a school playground.
Around 2:15pm Friday afternoon, Michael McCormick and David Stapp walked onto the Westside Elementary School campus, and took the child from the playground.
Deputies say a teacher saw what happened and tried to stop the men, but she was pushed down as the pair took off.
Deputies found the men and the girl ten minutes later near the Valdosta Regional Airport. Both men were arrested.
Investigators later learned that McCormick is the father of the child, but he doesn't have custody of her. The child has be reunited with her mother.
