TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Two men have been arrested after police say they hit two women who tried to break up the fight between them.
According to official documents, Matthew Merritt, his wife, John Holstein and his girlfriend met up at the Walmart on Apalachee Parkway Sunday night.
Merritt told police he and his girlfriend had invited the other couple back to their house to hang out. When they arrived, Merritt told Holstein he wanted to go back to the parking lot they had their RV parked at (2990 Apalachee Parkway).
It was then that Holstein asked if he and his wife could go with them, because they wanted to go to the liquor store.
Merritt's wife told police that the four had a couple of alcoholic drinks before Holstein began acting "irrational". Merritt's wife then told Holstein to get off the RV because of his behavior.
They told police that Holstein had listened to her and left, but returned, threw a shopping cart at the window of the bus, and began yelling obscenities.
Meritt's wife went outside to see what was wrong with Holstein, but was hit in the head with an unknown object.
Merritt, who followed her off the bus, then confronted Holstein, a fight ensuing in front of Governor Square Apartments.
Holstein's girlfriend told police that when she heard the commotion, she came outside and ran towards Holstein. She said that Merritt said to her, "Your boyfriend's dead! I killed him!"
When she got to Holstein, who was battered and bloodied, she said that Merritt began hitting her, shoving her to the ground. Once Merritt stopped attacking her, she ran to an X-Mart and asked the employee to call for help.
Police arrested both Holstein and Merritt. Holstein was charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon against Merritt's wife.
