SUWANNEE COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating after two people were killed in a fiery crash with a semi-truck Wednesday morning.

FHP says a 1997 Ford F-150 was traveling north on U.S. 129, going toward the intersection on U.S. 27 while a semi-truck driven by Freddie James, 65, of Falkville, Alabama was traveling east on U.S. 27 approaching the same intersection.

In the middle of the intersection, the front of the truck crashed into the semi, which was hauling railroad cross ties. A fire then sparked and ignited, engulfing both vehicles in flames.

The two occupants were trapped inside the vehicle and were both pronounced deceased on the scene of the crash, a Suwannee spokesperson said.

The semi-truck driver escaped from the fire with minor injuries.

Identification of the driver and passenger of the truck is pending next of kin notification. FHP says charges are pending investigation.
