VALDOSTA, GA (WTXL) - Firefighters battled the blazes of two fires in Valdosta Friday.

Officials were called to Forrestwood Drive just before 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. When crews arrived, they say they saw smoke coming from one apartment unit. According to officials, other apartments in the complex were not affected by the fire.

Fire officials determined the cause of the fire to be unattended cooking. All three people residing there were unable to stay in that apartment.

Officials with Red Cross were on scene to assist those three. Earlier that day, Red Cross helped two others when they lost their home to a morning fire.

The house, on Wilmington Court, had smoke coming from its roof. Fire officials ruled the cause of the fire to be connected to trouble with the fireplace. Damages were estimated at $20,000.

No injuries were reported in either fire.
