LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WTXL) - The names of two Lowndes County deputies involved in a deadly shooing the the Econo Lodge in Valdasta have been released.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office says Scott Warnock and Kenneth Manuel were arresting 42-year-old Dexter Beathea at the Econo Lodge on April 8, 2015 when Beathea was shot and later died on scene.
According to the Sheriff's Office, Beathea attempted to hit the officers with his car to escape arrest; one officer was struck by the vehicle, he was later released from the hospital.
When officers searched his vehicle they found marijuana and cocaine.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into the incident.
