LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - The US National Weather Service Tallahassee Florida has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Leon County.
The watch will be active from 8 a.m. Tuesday, through Thursday.
Widespread rain is expected in the amounts of 3 to 6 inches west of the Apalachicola River and 1 to 3 inches east of the river.
Officials say road closures may be possible, particularly in low lying areas.
They asked that travelers please use caution on the roadways.
Leon County and the National Weather Service of Tallahassee will be hosting a press conference on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. encouraging you to be prepared by downloading the Leon County Citizens Connect mobile application.
The press conference will show how Leon County’s mobile technology receives and distributes NWS watches and warnings and local experts will discuss how those official updates are then relayed with County-specific details so that citizens are best informed during a weather event or other disaster.
Officials say that the 2017 Atlantic hurricane season is already bringing with it two weather systems into the central Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico that have potential to become tropical cyclones.
While unlikely to directly impact Florida the systems could bring heavy rain on the heels of a couple of weeks of rainy weather for the Leon County area.
The conference will take place on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Public Safety Complex on 911 Easterwood Drive.
