TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Two men, including one suspected of shooting three people in Quincy, have been charged in an armed home invasion robbery that allegedly stemmed from an argument over stolen shoes.
Isaac Herring was booked into jail Tuesday over an incident that stemmed from a confrontation over stolen tennis shoes.
Shamar Sutton, the suspect accused of shooting three people in Quincy on Jan. 3, was also charged in connection with the case.
On Dec. 30, a victim called 911 after two suspects tried to force their way into his residence, according to a probable cause affidavit. The victim said one of the men, Isaac Herring, told him he was there to speak with the victim's roommate, who was not home.
The victim saw the second suspect, identified as Sutton, walk toward Herring. Sutton was armed with an AK-47 type assault rifle.
After seeing the rifle, the victim said he closed the door and was able to lock it. He then ran to his second-floor balcony and jumped to the ground to escape. The victim said he heard his front door forced inward and knew that Herring and Sutton had entered his apartment.
After returning his apartment, the victim told investigators that his money vehicle had been stolen. He said someone else told him that the two men left the apartment in his vehicle.
When asked why he was being targeted, the victim said it concerned a pair of Air Jordan shoes the victim had confronted Sutton about stealing the week before. The victim said his roommate told him about the theft.
The victim said he believed Sutton was "coming for him" to "show him" and "get to him," the court document said.
While the victim was at the hospital, documents say Herring called someone who was with the victim, and the call was broadcast so he could hear it. The victim also used his phone to record the call and gave the recording to police.
On the call, Herring explained that he was "just out of prison" and "had two babies on the way" and needed clothes and could not "struggle." Herring explained there was a disagreement about shoes and said Sutton was the one who drove off in the victim's car.
Investigators later learned that Herring was released from prison on Oct. 1.
On Jan. 3, Sutton was arrested for unrelated outstanding warrants, the document said. Sutton is a suspect in the shooting of three people in Gadsden County.
Documents note Sutton had on shoes matching the stolen pair's description when he was brought into the police department.
Sutton denied committing the robbery but confirmed he knew Herring and said there would be no reason for Herring to identify him as being a party to the robbery.
After obtaining consent to search a home, investigators found multiple firearms, including a stolen rifle and a handgun consistent with the one used in Gadsden County, the court document said. The handgun and ammunition for an AK-47 rifle were also discovered in the room Sutton was in before he was arrested.
Based on the evidence, police found probable cause to charge Sutton and Herring with the armed home invasion robbery.
On Tuesday, Herring was taken into custody and remains in the Leon County Detention Center with no bond amount listed.
