JACKSON, Co. (WTXL) - A Mariana woman is dead after a crash in Gadsden County and according to authorities, none of the 5 people in that vehicle were wearing seat belts.
The Florida Highway Patrol is saying that Cheryl Holmes was killed around 11:15 a.m. Monday in a crash on US 90 at Popular Spring Road.
Troopers say the vehicle she was riding in, driven by Davonta Thomas, was approaching the intersection when the vehicle tried to make a left turn onto Popular Springs Road in front of the second car.
That vehicle, driven by Minnie Smith, braked and steered out of the roadway onto the dirt portion of Popular Springs Road, according to FHP. It skidded and collided with Thomas and Holmes's vehicle on the front right side.
The Trooper's report says the five individuals in Thomas and Holmes's vehicle, were not wearing seat belts. One of those passengers, Casey Holmes, also had serious injuries. The other two passengers were ages 4 and 5.
There were two passengers in Smith's vehicle as well, one of which was also not wearing a seat belt.
