Troopers identify man killed in fiery crash on Veterans Memorial Highway

LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) – Troopers have identified the 26-year-old man who was killed in a fiery crash in Leon County on Friday. 

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver as 26-year-old Justin Stephens from Monticello.

According to a press release, on Friday, Nov. 30 at 11:12 p.m., Stephens was driving his Dodge Ram 2500 on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Troopers say for unknown reasons, he lost control of the car and went through a fence, hitting a tree before overturning. The tree then fell on the Dodge and the truck caught on fire.

Stephens was pronounced dead on scene. 

A toxicology report is still pending. Troopers say Stephens was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

FHP was assisted at the scene by Leon County Sheriff's, Tallahassee Fire Department, Leon County EMS, and Chaires-Capitola Volunteer Department.

According to a press release, on Friday at 11:12 p.m., the driver of a Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling on Veterans Memorial Highway.

Troopers say for unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the car and went through a fence, hitting a tree before overturning.

The tree then fell on the Dodge and the vehicle caught on fire.

The driver has not yet been identified.
