JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Troopers say a 76-year-old driver managed to escape without injury when her car became submerged in flooded waters.

The Florida Highway Patrol says it happened Friday afternoon when Kathryn Berendes of Fountain, Fla. drove around two barricades on S.R. 276.

The barricades indicated that the roadway was closed due to water, though Berendes ignored the signs attempted to drive southbound across the flooded road.

Due to the depth of the water, her car stopped working and became submerged in the water. Luckily, troopers say Berendes was able to get out of her car and walk to safety.

There are no charges in the incident.
