TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A World War II airplane is in Tallahassee this week.

The goal is to teach local children about the Tuskegee Airmen, and what they did for our country.

The Red Tail P-51 was flown by the segregated group of airmen who escorted bombers into and out of harms way during the Second World War. Officials say having the plane in the city weighs heavily, and is a nod to the city's historic roots.

Organizers say they hope children coming to see the plane take away valuable lessons about perseverance and determination. You can learn more about the Tuskegee Airmen here.
