Transgenders Gather at State Capitol In Protest of New Bill

Tallahassee, Fla. (WTXL)--Transgender people from all over Florida gathered at the state capitol to speak out against a bill, they say endangers their livelihood.

On Tuesday, Several organizations came together on the steps of the Old Capitol Building to speak out against House Bill 583.

The bill would criminalize people using the bathroom and other public facilities that don’t match their biological gender.

It includes a $1,000 fine, up to one year in jail and even lawsuits for not using the bathroom that matches their birth assigned gender.

The bill is on Wednesday’s agenda for the civil justice subcommittee.
