MADISON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - A tractor-trailer hauling 15 motorcycles caught fire on it's way to Tallahassee Thursday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the fire happened around 11:20 a.m. Thursday near mile marker 260. Mile marker 260 is two miles away from the Lee exit.
FHP arrived on scene at 11:27 a.m.
Madison County Fire Rescue says the fire happened when the trailer's tire blew out. The driver failed to notice the blown tire, which caused the sparks that started the fire.
Once the trailer began to light up in flames, the driver pulled over and unhooked the trailer from his vehicles.
The driver told MCFR that he was headed to do a demo at Red Hill Powersports the next day. He had already been to Daytona and Ocala on a national demo tour.
No injuries were reported, though Madison County Fire Rescue says all 15 of the bikes sustained some kind of damage that ranged from melted windshields to total loss.
Estimated damage is $100,000 but the final number may be even higher.
