TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The holiday travel rush has begun.

Around the country, millions of people plan to hit the roads or take to the skies during the next two weeks.

The good news is that AAA predicted Thursday would be the worst day to travel. So the worst is maybe over.

WTXL ABC 27's Brittany Barnett was live Thursdya night from near I-10.

She said she saw steady traffic all afternoon and into the early evening.

At the time she was there last, the roads were a little less crowded, but activity is going to pick right back up again Friday and into the weekend.

AAA estimates more than 102 million people will travel by car this holiday season.

If you're one of them, be prepared for busy roads and possible delays no matter what day you travel.

Florida Highway Patrol as well as Georgia State Patrol are preparing to send more troopers out to patrol the roads over the next few days.

One holiday traveler wants to encourage everyone to watch out for others and be safe on the roads.

Robert Kusz, a holiday traveler, advises people to "Take your time, don't be in a big hurry. Go slow. We already saw some big wrecks on I-75 between Gainesville and Ocala. this time of the year there's no need to be in a big hurry. Just be safe so you can enjoy Christmas with your family."

Of course, one reason that many people are choosing to drive this season is the very low gas prices we're seeing

Now here's something that can help you pick the best time to get on the road.

While you're sitting at home, take a minute to download the WTXL First Warning Weather app.

You can check the radar and even see an hour-by-hour forecast.

That information can help you decide when it's a good time to travel or if you need to wait a few more hours.
