TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police have a warning for residents who are planning to go out of town for the holidays.
Officers say the first thing you should do is make sure you are triple checking all the doors in your home before you leave, to ensure each one is locked.
They also say it is a good idea to make friends with your neighbors, that way they can check things out and keep you updated on how your home is doing while you are way.
Officer Rachelle Denmark with the Tallahassee Police Department stopped by to give a few more tips.
"Many people will be traveling over the holidays whether it's just for a short time or a long period of time," said Denmark. "The first thing we ask people to do is to make sure their home is secure. Lock your doors, make sure your windows are locked -- all points of entry. You have to almost think 'if I was a bad guy, how would I get in here?'"
