TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)--Running safety has been thrust back in the spotlight after a jogger in California was abducted. The woman was held captive for three weeks and survived.

Tallahassee Police Officer Dave Northway joined us on set to talk about preventative measures you can take when you set out for a run.

Officer Northway explains that Tallahassee has a large running group. People love to get out and run.

He recommends people always run in a group or in pairs, especially at dawn or dusk.

He also recommends telling someone where you are going. Leave a note.

Text someone if you are going by yourself.

Bring your cellphone.

There are apps you can download and use on your cellphone.

Apps are available that show your loved ones where you are.

Officer Northway says they haven't had in cases in Tallahassee where a runner was kidnapped.
