TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Tallahassee Police want everyone in the Capital City be ready for Hurricane Irma.

Officers are offering safety tips residents should be aware of.

Officers say when there are downed powerlines and trees in the road, do not go up to touch them or drive over them.

When traffic lights are out, treat them as a four way stop.

Officers say these hazards pose a big threat, but the best way to avoid them is to stay home.

Fire departments and electric utility crews are working to make sure resources are available and in place to respond to any issues. City vehicles have been gassed up and stocked with essential supplies, and contact is being made with mutual aid partners.
