TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A retired Tallahassee Police officer's actions may have saved the life of an abandoned baby raccoon.
The Tallahassee Police Department said retired Sergeant Dave Ferrell was riding on a bike trail and came across the raccoon in the middle of the trail.
Officers write the animal was "screaming for mama," though his mother was nowhere to be found. They note the animal was covered in botflies and fly larvae.
Sergeant Ferrell couldn't leave the raccoon there alone, so he called Lieutenant Mike Abbey who gave the little guy a ride to St. Francis Wildlife Sanctuary Inc.
Thanks to Sergeant Ferrell's actions, the baby raccoon was cleaned up and is now recovering.
