TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting on Jackson Bluff Road.

The incident happened Saturday morning around 1:41 a.m.  A TPD officer, now identified as Damien Pearson, saw a suspicious vehicle parked on Jackson Bluff Road. When the officer began to approach the car, the car hit the officer.

The officer shot at the suspect, hitting the vehicle as it drove away from the scene.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. At this time, it is unknown if the suspect(s) were injured.

Officer Pearson has been placed on paid administrative leave. WTXL ABC 27 has now obtained a press release documenting Pearson's work history.

According to the document, Officer Pearson was hired in 2014 and had high marks in his evaluations for the past two years.

He was only disciplined once, in January 2017, for failing to follow department rules. As a result, he was placed on a 10 hour suspension. Prior to becoming an officer at TPD, Pearson served in the U.S. Marine Corp for 12 years.
