MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL)--High school students can spend some of their summer gaining leadership skills under the instruction of the Tallahassee Police Department.

It's called the T.A.C. Summer Program: Training, Achievement and Confidence.

It name draws its inspiration from the police department's Tactical Apprehension Control (T.A.C.) team. It's their version of SWAT.

Students will learn real-life skills like negotiating and speech-writing.

June 30 is the deadline to apply.

The academy will run August 7-11 at the Florida Public Safety Institute.
