TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - As the summer progresses and more people make their way poolside, the Tallahassee Police Department offers life-saving tips about pool safety.

TPD advises homeowners to help prevent unsafe swimming situations by surrounding their pools with fences.

Parents, they say, should also ensure that children use the correct flotation devices, and also empty kiddie pools immediately after use.

In the summer time people are going to be out by the pool," said Sgt. Teresa Howard. "It's hot, people want to cool off, so we want to make sure they're aware when they are at the pool that they know to be vigilant, be aware, and not be distracted when they are in the pool."

Accidents can happen quickly, and children can drown in as few as two inches of water. TPD encourages the community, especially parents, to participate in life-saving CPR classes.
